Cash is run-scoped — it dies with the run, but every dollar funds shop rerolls, Flyer refreshes, and occasional event buys. The habit that separates Tier 1 clears from endless restarts is spending toward synergy, not hoarding toward an imaginary perfect board.

| Habit | Why it works | When to break it |
|---|---|---|
| Take the hard fight when healed | Extra cash before the next shop node | Team below half HP and no Medic or Cleric online |
| Buy one synergistic Relic before rerolling | One cleave or crit loop beats three random passives | Shop already shows a named carry piece (Arcane Monocle, Bandoleer) |
| Bank ~20% cash before a boss | Emergency reroll or event buy after a bad Trinket roll | Act boss drops a Trinket you already planned around |
| Lock Business Dude payouts early | Compound interest across multiple fights when the event appears | You need every coin for a critical shop this act |
| Finance Dude dividends | Each Finance on roster adds end-of-fight cash — stack with Employed tags | You are mono-Undead with zero economy Dudes |

Launch-week runs that snowball often take the risky cash node when a healer is online, then immediately convert that spike into shop power. A Hidden Daggers-style cleave Relic that buffs every Dude on the roster turns the next three fights into cleanup — the gold was only useful because it became a Relic, not because it sat in the wallet.
If you are one Family tag away from a shop breakpoint, rerolling is often correct even when your balance looks comfortable. Gold habits start with knowing what you are buying next.
Finance Dude pays dividends per Finance type at fight end; Business Dude events turn lump sums into multi-fight returns when you meet timing windows. Employed-heavy Flyers make both tips matter — see the families guide for tag thresholds before you force an economy spine you do not enjoy playing.
Gold feeds rerolls — the next section covers when refreshing the shop is worth the price.
Rerolls are the game's skill expression. You are paying cash to widen the Relic pool or recruitment options — not to chase rarity for its own sake.

Pulse heal before swarm nodes

Repeating taunt — almost any board

AOE carry with minimal Trinket need
Community clears often hinge on a single run-wide modifier — all-Dude cleave, crit chains on Ninja, or Wizard fireball bounce — not on filling every slot. If the shop offers something that names your carry's trigger, take it, then reroll with what's left.
Flyers set recruitment bias for the next several nodes. Refresh a Flyer when all three options are off-Family and you already committed to mono-Fantasy or mono-Action. Shop rerolls matter more once you have four Dude types locked and need the last tag or a boss-prepping Relic.
Mis-rerolling is how runs go broke — juice discipline in the next section prevents the other common bankruptcy.
Dude Juice revives Unconscious Dudes instead of losing the type for the rest of the run. Official beginner guidance from Butterscotch Shenanigans boils down to hold the Juice — and launch players agree once they hit the first Act boss with an empty flask.
| Situation | Juice? | Reason |
|---|---|---|
| Trash fight KO on a disposable scout | No | Many KOs recover on a timer; save juice for bosses |
| Solo healer or taunt down before boss | Yes | Losing your only Cleric or Knight often ends the act |
| Carry with a boss Trinket attached | Yes | Trinkets are type-bound — losing that slot is a build tear-down |
| Two Dudes unconscious at once early | Maybe one | Juice both only if you cannot afford to re-draft roles |
| Full HP team facing a safe node | Never | HP is also a resource — take the easy fight instead |

Pulse heal before swarm nodes

Repeating taunt — almost any board

AOE carry with minimal Trinket need
Autobattler fights can end while a Dude is still down. Letting a non-critical type sit out a won fight preserves juice for the node where enemy count spikes. If you juice every knockout, you arrive at gorilla packs with no emergency revive.
Some event nodes grant juice without combat — grab them when your roster is stable, not when you are already drowning. Consumables that revive or shield mid-fight (when unlocked) overlap with juice; do not double-spend on the same mistake.
Events decide whether you need that juice later — covered next.
Between fights you meet wandering NPC Dudes — Merchant, Trainer, Business, Food, Smuggler, Scavenger, and more. Each trades cash, HP, or roster stability for long-run power.
| Event type | Take when | Skip when |
|---|---|---|
| Business Dude investment | You can lock cash for multiple future payouts | You need every coin for the next shop before a boss |
| Food / Chef buffs | Upcoming node has high enemy count | Team is full HP and lacks damage Relics |
| Trainer Dude | Offer upgrades a carry trigger you already stack | Random stat on an off-Family type |
| Smuggler | Deal completes a Relic or consumable gap | Price empties your boss reserve |
| Scavenger | Free juice or cash with no HP cost | Trade costs your only taunt slot |
| Merchant reroll | Shop after event is weak and you have reserve cash | Already at zero after reroll spam |
Every event is opportunity cost against fighting another node for Stars or cash. Business and Food events shine when your combat loop is stable and you are scaling into Tier 2 — not when you still lack a front line.
Employed Flyers make Business and Finance tips stronger; Fantasy Flyers make Trainer heals and Cleric pulses more common in shops. Your Flyer pick is the filter for which event tips apply — more on that below.
Six Families (Action, Employed, Fantasy, Sci-Fi, Undead, Warrior) gate synergies — mixing tags beats raw stats early.

| Habit | Effect |
|---|---|
| Pick one Family spine by Act 1 | Relic pool density jumps when three-plus Dudes share tags |
| Pass on off-Family S-tier bait | One Wizard does not help if shops never offer Fantasy again |
| Pre-post Flyers only after Ranch unlock | Ensemble Mode skips learning — Classic teaches your real preferences |
| Reroll Flyers with zero tag overlap | Better than taking a fifth unrelated type |
| Pair Flyer with planned boss Trinket | Ninja Flyer + crit Trinket route beats random Action picks |
You can field up to five unique Dude Types per run — duplicates of the same type do not stack on one team.
Every recruitment window is opportunity cost. The tier list helps you know which types are worth breaking your Family plan for — usually one taunt or heal, not a second carry.
Relics modify the whole run; Trinkets are boss rewards tied to specific Dude types — plan both layers early.
Trinkets attach to one Dude type from boss kills — plan which boss you need before you finalize the roster. The trinkets guide maps boss routes once your Flyer spine is set.
Enemy labels decide whether your Family stack survives — read them before you click Fight.
Enemy nodes show species and count. One gorilla behaves nothing like 287 bees or 400 toddlers — and the game expects you to read the label before you commit.
| Node text pattern | Team wants | Tip |
|---|---|---|
| Hundreds of small hits (bees, toddlers) | Pulse heal, cleave, taunt wall | Take safe node if no AoE heal online |
| Single large bruiser (gorilla, god) | Single-target protection, Stored damage | Paladin Blessing or Lich storage shines |
| Mixed swarm + elite | Balanced roster order — tank intercepts | Reorder roster free outside combat |
| Harder option + extra cash | Heal margin above 60% team HP | Skip if two Dudes are already Unconscious |
Relics that add cleave, pulse heals, or team Toughness pay off exactly on high-count nodes. If your only scaling is single-target Ninja crits, a bee swarm is the run's natural stop sign — take the safe path and shop for AoE.
Act bosses drop Trinkets — see the enemies guide for kill order. Arriving underbuilt because you took every hard node is fixable only if you still have cash and juice; otherwise the mistake was two nodes ago.
The mistake table below collects the habits that cause those underbuilt arrivals.
Most early losses are process errors, not bad RNG. Scan this table after a wipe before you rewrite your whole strategy.
| Mistake | Fix |
|---|---|
| Drafting five damage dealers | Add Knight, Pirate, Cleric, or Medic before Act 2 |
| Ignoring enemy count text | Safe node when the pack says hundreds of small hits |
| Juicing every knockout | Let trash-fight KOs recover; save juice for bosses |
| Rerolling shops dry | Buy one synergistic Relic, then reroll with a floor reserve |
| Chasing off-Family Relics | Stay on-tag for shop density — see relics |
| Skipping Dudex tooltips | Click abilities before you buy; triggers are not obvious |
| Never visiting Ranch | Meta unlocks beat another restart with the same narrow pool |
| Selling a Dude type mid-run | You cannot get that exact slot back — plan five roles upfront |
Official tips say every Dude is strong with synergy. That is true and misleading: Regular Dude's mob bonus wants duplicates you cannot field under the five-unique-type rule, so he looks weak unless Relics rewrite recruitment. Context beats tier hype.
Correct the habits on this page first, then draft from the tier list and builds hub. Ask humans on Discord when a patch renames a UI label mid-week.
Daily Dude and Ensemble tweak a few of these rules — last section.
Single-player · Daily Dude · Ensemble Mode. Classic runs are solo; Daily Dude shares a seed leaderboard; Ensemble Mode lets you pre-post Flyers before the run starts.
| Mode | Tip shift |
|---|---|
| Classic | All economy and juice tips above apply unchanged |
| Daily Dude | Fixed seed — search Discord and Reddit for that day spine instead of generic tier picks |
| Ensemble Mode | Pre-posted Flyers skip early recruitment RNG — validate against tier list first |
| Higher Tiers | Jump early for Stars per official guidance; backfill lower-tier Stars later |
Classic mode teaches which Families you actually finish with. Pre-loading a cute but low-synergy dream team skips the learning that makes reroll and juice tips intuitive — unlock Ensemble through Ranch progression, then import a spine from the ranch guide.
Do not hoard gold — buy one on-tag Relic, then reroll shops when your Family spine is one Dude away from a breakpoint.
Gold pacing → shop/Flyer rerolls → Dude Juice hold → Flyer Family density. That four-step loop is the practical “tips and tricks” answer before you chase meta Relics.
Take it when your team has healing or taunt online and HP margin. Skip when enemy count outscales your AoE.
